BN'K Highlights for Dream Con 2025

Dream Con 2025 came and went like a whirlwind, and the BN’K on Tour team is dealing with post-con sadness about it. From the diversity on full display from the cosplays and creative outfits, to the fun activities available, there was something particularly special about this event that we enjoyed. And while there are a ton of things that we could include about our time at Dream Con, we wanted to highlight our favorite experiences, activations, and activities from Dream Con 2025.

Megan Thee Stallion’s Chicas Divertitas Tequila Booth

The team adored the Chicas Divertitas Booth with its colorful, bubbly staff, supreme vibes, and tasty drinks. Enjoying the booth was a simple as hopping into line, where you filled out a consent form and completed an age verification check by showing your ID. Once completed, we waited in line and enjoyed the amazing DJ playing all of the hot girl tunes your heart desires. Once we made it to the front of the line, we were greeted by booth attendants who guided us through the process and gave us details on the experience, starting with the cute photo booth filled with plushies and then over to the bar where the bartender created signature drinks for attendees.

The photobooth featured a cutout of Megan in her pink bunny BOA music video costume with hundreds of plushies decorating the wall. Once the photo was taken and sent to your phone, we headed for the bar where we could decide on our choice of drinks, which featured  3 signature drinks, the Spicy Chica-rita, the Cowgirl, and Megan’s way, made with either tequila blanco or reposado. Megan’s booth, all in all, felt fun, kawaii, and consistent with Megan’s brand of mixing anime aesthetics with being a baddie.

Dream Con Cosplay Contest

The BN’K team never fails to make the cosplay contest, and this event was no different. The Dream Con cosplay contest was fairly consistent with what you would see at other events, although we can’t say what the rules were for actual participants. Visually, the cosplayers were stunning, but each of them also brought a ton of personality and stage presence as well. Two of our favorite cosplays we saw were @nickiisstyles as Tails from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and the best in show award-winning @mega.mite, Belle from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. The contest was such a positive experience, and judges @cutiepiesensei, @my_neverending_dreamz, and @sunflow3rsamurai were supportive and informative.

Solo in Japan Panel

If you’ve always dreamed of going to Japan or being a solo traveler in any foreign country, for that matter, then the panel Solo in Japan: A Black Female Traveler’s Guide to Safe & Budget-Friendly Adventures would’ve been right up your alley. Hosted by @somejenny, she went through a wide variety of topics such as must-haves for travel, beginner tips and tricks, as well as information on booking experiences and unique things you could try that aren’t the normal fare for foreign travelers to Japan. Jenny was equal parts knowledgeable and patient, answering inquiries with kindness and expertise that was perfect for the attendees on the panel. It’s always exciting when someone who looks like you shares information about the thing you're interested in, and Jenny had us hooked and excited to go home and create our own plans to travel to Japan.

Otaku Dance Academy: Afrobeats Edition (18+)

Whether you can move your hips like a pro or you have two left feet, all were welcome at the Otaku Dance Academy hosted by Black Girls Anime and instructed by Princess Chi. With a packed-out room and a wonderfully talented dancer breaking down what felt like the most complicated choreography we’d ever seen, it was a bit intimidating to get involved, but Eunice of Black Girls Anime and Princess made the process of learning the choreography not only easy but enjoyable. The class was accommodating and inclusive, bringing in all types of people with varying dancing abilities into one group of coordinated dancing superstars. By the time the class was over, we were hitting the choreography like pros and felt sexy while doing it. It was a fun panel that we hope they continue to host at the next Dream Con.

Wrestling in the Grand Lobby

One of the best parts of Dream Con was the wrestling match hosted throughout Dream Con weekend. It wasn’t really on our radar for the weekend’s itinerary, and yet both Friday and Saturday, we found ourselves entranced in matches between talented wrestlers. Every match was crowded, and the standing area around the ring was full, and for good reason, the show was peak. From spinning double kicks to high-flying rope tricks, we were totally captivated by the hard work that was behind the ropes.

Dream Con honestly had so much in store that it’s difficult to recount it all. These were some of our team favorites, but they're not the only ones we enjoyed. For Dream Con 2025, BN’K on Tour collaborated with OFF BLXXK Magazine to bring you more articles and coverage of the event. Maids so Sweet They'll Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

The BN’K on Tour team loves a good Maid Cafe, and during coverage of Anime Festival of Orlando 2024, we had one of the most delightful Cafe experiences with folks of Sweet Tooth Maid Cafe. If you’re unfamiliar with maid cafes, these are themed experiences based on the entertainment phenomena popularized in the Japanese shopping hub of Akihabara. These cute cafes feature an adorable ambiance where employees dress up like maids and butlers all while serving up adorable snacks and or themed treats, playing games with guests, and even putting on fun and interactive performances for patrons.  The experience is truly one of a kind and pretty different from the typical cafe experience you receive in the States; and for anime fans who love Japanese culture, it’s an absolute must-attend activity. So of course, as the team was wrapping up day 2 Anime Festival of Orlando, it was a no-brainer that we’d stop by and enjoy what the maid cafe had to offer. Welcome Back Home, Master! A few hours be...

A New Event Has Arrived and They're Bringing the Heat! Central Florida Face-Off 2024

E-sports have always been popular in the nerd space, but in Central Florida, we have access to some of the best e-sports hubs around. From CEO Gaming and CEOtaku, hosted annually, as well as other smaller gaming groups and gatherings, this area is perfect for members of the fighting game community (FGC) and other esports participants. So it was no surprise when a new esports event called Central Florida Face-Off (CFFO) was announced that folks in the area were stoked to attend.  Central Florida Face-Off was a one-day event hosted at the Avanti Palms Resort in Orlando, Florida, in the popular tourist area, International Drive. According to the creative team behind the event, CFFO is  “A daring experiment in combining the communities of fighting games and trading card games, showing off the power of competition to bring people together” .   The hotel was rather spacious with plenty of space for gamers and other nerdy enthusiast to enjoy their time at the event. The event h...

One of the Best Anime Conventions in Orlando: AFO 2025

As someone who has been attending cons since 2013, I’ve seen the shift in convention culture. Conventions that once filled small hotel meeting rooms or community centers now take over convention centers and multiple hotels, growing to feature larger talent, sponsors, exhibitor halls, and venues. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it is very different from the conventions of previous decades, and I’m a sucker for the conventions of that era. Smaller, cozier events where everyone knows each other, and yet each year you discover something new. You get to watch your friends and community grow, and there's something nostalgic and endearing about it all.  I haven’t felt this way about a convention in a long time, but that’s what this year's Anime Festival of Orlando (AFO) felt like. It felt like home. I've been going to AFO for nearly a decade, and I’ve seen the event change and grow over the years, but these last two years feel like a renaissance for the convention, as AFO...
